Privacy policy

Last updated: 29 July 2026

Bloody Good Builders (ABN 25 683 517 606, "we", "us") runs a marketplace that connects people who need residential building work with a curated network of builders. We handle your personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. No fine-print tricks - here's the straight story.

What we collect

If you submit a project: your name, email, phone (optional), suburb, and the details of your project. If you apply as a builder: your business name, contact details, ABN, every licence or registration you list and the jurisdiction it's from, your insurer and policy details, crew size, specialties, and anything you tell us in your pitch. If you're a builder using the platform: your account details and your activity on leads. Payments are processed by Stripe - we never see or store your card number.

Why we collect it

To run the marketplace: reviewing and publishing project requests, vetting builders, matching projects with suitable builders, processing payments and refunds, and keeping you informed about your request or account. We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for third-party advertising.

Who we share it with

The heart of the service: when your project is approved, your project details are shown to our builder network, and your contact details are revealed only to the builders (at most three) who take up your lead - that's the introduction you paid for. Beyond that, we share information only with the service providers who help us operate (payment processing, hosting, email delivery), each bound to handle it properly, and where the law requires it.

If you're a builder, there's a second case. When you put a subcontract package out on the tender board, your business name and the job details are visible to other members. Bids are sealed - the member who posted sees every bid and who made it; no bidder sees anyone else's. When a tender is awarded, we swap contact details between the two of you - your email and phone go to them, theirs come to you - because you've now got a job to sort out together. Nobody else on the board sees either.

Storage and security

The platform runs on servers in Australia, and your information is encrypted in transit. Passwords are stored only as salted cryptographic hashes. We keep information for as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations (like tax records), then remove it.

Backups are held overseas, in Switzerland. They are encrypted before they leave our server with a key the storage provider does not have, so the provider cannot read them and neither can anyone who gets hold of a copy. We also use Stripe (United States) to take payments and Postmark (United States) to send email, so the details needed for those two jobs reach them.

Cookies and how we measure the site

We set cookies only to keep you signed in: one for builders, one for admins, and one here on this site for homeowners checking on a project. That is all of them. We don't run advertising trackers, and there is no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, and no third-party tracking of any kind on this site.

We do measure our own site, on our own servers, so we can see where people get stuck and fix it. When you use the project form or the builder application we record which step you reached, roughly how long it took, whether you hit an error, and whether you finished. We never record what you typed.

Those measurements carry a random ID that your browser generates and stores for the tab you're in. It disappears when you close the tab. It isn't built from your email, your name, your device, or your IP address, and it can't be used to recognise you on a later visit or on any other website. We can't work backwards from it to you, which also means that if you ask us to delete "your" measurement data we genuinely can't find it - there's nothing linking it to you. Once you submit a project, that submission is linked to you in the normal way and the access and deletion rights below apply to it as usual.

We keep the raw measurements for 90 days, then reduce them to daily totals with no ID attached. If you'd rather not be measured at all, blocking JavaScript for this site stops it entirely; the project form still works without it.

Records of our decisions

When we review a project request or a builder application, we keep a record of the decision, who made it, when, and the details it was based on - for a project that's things like the project type, budget range, postcode and how ready the job is; for a builder it's the licences, business number and insurance you gave us. We keep these to stay accountable for decisions that move money, to answer you if you ask why, and to improve how we review. If you're a builder using the platform, we also keep a record of which leads you were shown and which you took up.

Access, correction, and complaints

Want to see what we hold about you, fix something, or have it deleted? Email privacy@bloodygoodbuilders.com.au and we'll sort it. If you're not happy with how we've handled a privacy concern, you can complain to us first (we'll respond within 30 days), and if we can't sort it out, to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above. Material changes get flagged by email.

Where our location data comes from

We work out how far a job is from a builder using postcode centre points derived from the Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF), published by Geoscape Australia and made available by the Australian Government under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. We use it only to measure distance between postcodes. It is not used to build or verify postal addresses, and we don't send mail based on it.
